Analytics & Decision-Making4 min
Analytics students don't struggle with methods. They struggle with questions.
Give a class a clean dataset and a stated objective and most will succeed. Give them a business problem and watch what happens.
Ten years of teaching analytics has convinced me that technique is the easy part. Students can fit models. What they cannot reliably do is decide which question is worth answering.
Where the practicum comes in
Real sponsors do not arrive with a specified target variable. They arrive with a frustration. Translating that frustration into an answerable question is the actual skill, and it can only be taught in conditions where the question is genuinely undefined.
